SEMAG- Software.based Information Systems Engineering and Management Group
SEMAG was founded in July of 2001 as a special interest group within the Dept. of Information Systems of Universidade do Minho.
Currently, SEMAG is a research group devoted to the advance of the state-of-the-art of software-based information systems, both on the engineering and management aspects of the following research tracks:

(i) Modeling approaches for analysis and design;
(ii) Business and location-enhanced database systems;
(iii) Metadata and ontologies for the semantic Web;
(iv) Process and project management life-cycles.

SEMAG conducts its research activities towards the methodological (requirements, analysis, design) and organizational (management, quality and standards) issues related with the software engineering discipline in the information systems application domain, and adopts the empirical and experimental research approaches.

CIICESI - Centro de Inovação e Investigação em Ciências Empresariais e Sistemas de Informação
Committed to stimulating and improving this reality in our country, the School of Technologies and Management of Felgueiras (ESTGF) decided to create the Center for Innovation and Research in Business Sciences and Information Systems (CIICESI). This research center provides companies and public institutions with access to various financing programs, enhancing their better use and profitability. Equipped with an interdisciplinary team, made up of specialists in several complementary areas, CIICESI acts in several aspects, namely through the execution of R&D projects.

Description

The Center for Innovation and Research in Business Sciences and Information Systems is a functional unit for innovation and research, providing services to the community and disseminating knowledge in its specific fields. The Center includes 30 researchers (15 Doctors, 10 Masters and 6 Graduates), specialists in various areas of Business Sciences and Information Systems, namely, Regional and Local Development, Legal Advisory and Consultancy, Business and Organizational Strategy, Quality Management, New Information Technologies, Industrial Engineering and Information Systems Management.

MagiC
MagIC is the research and development center of the NOVA School of Statistics and Information Management (ISEGI-NOVA). Its main objective is to contribute to the advancement of the field of Information Management. MagIC is a Research Center focused on harnessing information to improve organizations and society in general. The main objective of MagIC is to contribute to the advancement of the field of information management and is committed to improving the usability, reliability and credibility of information. As a fundamental asset in any development strategy for the 21st century, information is still a somewhat elusive concept that deserves massive research to be used as an effective organizational asset. It is necessary to improve the understanding of the properties of information as an asset, in addition to creating and developing the appropriate methodologies for its management. The ability to improve efficiency, develop new business models, overcome investment limitations are among the promises that effective information management can offer to organizations and societies. However, it seems clear that our ability to capture and store data has not yet been matched by the ability to transform it into relevant and actionable information. In addition, the big flood of big data will only make this problem more obvious, presenting new and more difficult challenges. These challenges are the focus of our research.

INESC - Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores
The Information Systems Group is dedicated to research, development and supervision of students (PhD, master and final year projects) in many topics below the information systems area. We are particularly devoted to R&D projects (partly) financed by Portuguese and European programs, but also applied research supported by private companies and public institutes. As a complement to these activities, the group also provides high-level training, consulting and development on demand, in particular on those areas where the group has acquired know-how and experience.

CISUC - Center for Informatics and Systems of University of Coimbra
The Information Systems group explores two research strands:

(i) Information Systems as Service Systems
(ii) Participatory Media Design

The first of these lines acknowledges the increasing relevance of Services and the impact that these have on information systems. Although grounded on solid technical knowledge, our research puts on equal footing the social and business issues when addressing enterprise architecture, systems design, and governance.

The second line of research is positioned in the broader field of Human-Computer Interaction. It has been focused on the design of interactive media supporting online participation, collaboration, and learning.
