Information and Decision Support Systems

Objectives

Research in software technologies and information systems architectures. Algorithms for manipulation and mining of large volumes of data. Technologies for processing text and multimedia information on the Internet. Algorithms, methods and applications for manipulation of large volumes of data with a biological origin. Project of distributed information systems, with a special emphasis on the issues of persistence, object distribution, resources management, security and parallelism.

Information Systems

Objectives

The Information Systems Group is dedicated to research, development and supervision of students (PhD, master and final year projects) in many topics below the information systems area. We are particularly devoted to R&D projects (partly) financed by Portuguese and European programs, but also applied research supported by private companies and public institutes. As a complement to these activities, the group also provides high-level training, consulting and development on demand, in particular on those areas where the group has acquired know-how and experience.

See http://isg.inesc-id.pt/ for more Information.

Data Management and Information Retrieval

Objectives

The Data Management and Information Retrieval (DMIR) group does research and development of state-of-the-art solutions for:

(i) processing and extracting information from large datasets;

(ii) leveraging information to knowledge.

Knowledge Discovery and Bioinformatics

Objectives

The Knowledge Discovery and Bioinformatics (KDBIO) team of INESC-ID develops its activities in the areas of knowledge discovery, computational biology and bioinformatics. The objective is to integrate competences from researchers in diverse fields, including computer science, biology, statistics and control to address the challenges in computational biology and bioinformatics.
